SWARNIM VIJAY MASHAAL REACHES KOLKATA

December 1971 Indian Armed Forces secured a decisive victory over Pakistan. This resulted in liberation of Bangladesh, and largest military surrender after Second World War. After facing defeat in 1971 War, the then Army Commander of East Pakistan, Lieutenant General Amir Abdhullah Khan Niazi, alongwith his 93,000 troops surrendered to the Indian Armed Forces. Celebrations to commemorate the 50 years of Glorious Victory in 1971 are being celebrated as ‘Swarnim Vijay Varsh’. Honourable Prime Minister lit the ‘Victory Flame’ from the Eternal Flame of the National War Memorial New Delhi on 16 Dec 2020, marking the beginning of the Swarnim Vijay Varsh celebrations of India’s victory over Pakistan in 1971. The flame has moved in all cardinal directions passing through the villages and towns of Param Vir Chakra and Maha Vir Chakra awardees of 1971 War. As a mark of respect, soil from these towns and villages are also being collected, to be centrally kept at National War Memorial on 26 Dec 21, signalling the culmination of Swarnim Vijay Varsh celebrations.

 The ‘Victory Flame’ reached Panagarh Military Station on 06 March 2021 and was received by Lieutenant General Savneet Singh, General Officer Commanding, Brahmastra Corps with fanfare befitting the occasion. The Victory Flame after three days of journey in Eastern Command reached Kolkata on 09th Mar 21 and was received by Stn Cdr at Vijay Smarak, Fort William with fanfare including a static band display which was conducted to welcome  the Flame at HQ Eastern Command.

The Victory Flame would thereafter be carried to Royal Calcutta Turf Club (RCTC) ground and would be received by Lieutenant General Anil Chauhan, Army Commander, Eastern Command and Honourable Governor of West Bengal, Shri Jagdeep Dhankhar. A relay run with the Victory Flame by veterans and emminent personalities would also be organised in its honour. The Flame would thereafter move to Barrackpore on 11th Mar 21 and various events are being organised to welcome it.
