To mark the 50th anniversary of 1971 Bangladesh Liberation War, honourable Prime Minister paid tributes to 1971 War heroes on 16 December 2020 and lit a ‘Swarnim Vijay Mashaal: Victory Torch’ from the eternal flame of the National War Memorial in New Delhi. Four torches lit from the Victory Torch were sent in all four directions of the Country aimed at spreading awareness about the valour & indomitable spirit of our soldiers amongst the populace. One of the torches, carried towards Eastern India, reached Ranchi Military Station on 03 March 2021. The torch was welcomed at Jharkhand War Memorial with lot of zeal and enthusiasm in presence of senior military officers from Cockerel Division, veterans and NCC cadets.
In another event at Raj Bhavan, honourable Governor Smt Draupadi Murmu felicitated Vincent Ekka son of Lance Naik Albert Ekka, Param Veer Chakra (Posthumous). During the event, the Governor said that Albert Ekka's supreme sacrifice for the motherland has upheld the tradition of valour and sacrifice set by Bhagwan Birsa Munda. She urged the youth of Jharkhand to come forward and contribute in nation building by joining Armed Forces.
In the subsequent commemorative events planned from 03 to 06 March 21, a cultural event along with display of various military weapons and equipment is being organised at Morabadi Ground on 04 March and a military band show with a photo exhibition highlighting the valour of Indian Army in 1971 War will be organised at Jharkhand War Memorial on 05 March, subsequent to which it will be flagged off to Panagarh on 06 March.
