National : Uber today announced that since launching Uber Connect, its on - demand delivery service, in May, hundreds of small, family-run businesses across the country have used it to fulfill client orders in real-time, including items ranging from fresh flowers to fresh bakery goods.
On-demand pickups, safe, contactless payments and affordable prices make Uber Connect a popular choice for small and medium sized businesses that are trying to navigate the current challenging financial times, and can help economic revival of local communities and trade. The company launched Uber Connect to help keep vital supply chains moving during the lockdown, enabling residents to send and receive parcels from each other and also order items from shops, without having to step outside the comfort and safety of their homes. A close look at Uber’s internal data reveals that not only has the service picked up amongst users sending parcels to loved ones but B2B, B2C, and brick-and-mortar brands alike are using Uber Connect to make intra-city deliveries. Nikita Khemka runs a local B2B and B2C business in Kolkata supplying sanitizers. She says, “Uber Connect is the ideal service for me to meet on-demand deliveries of sanitizers. I usually send 5 litre bulk sanitizer bottles through Uber Connect and also make it a point to give a sanitizer bottle to every Uber partner who delivers the package. My experience using Uber Connect has been great so far.”
Another frequent user, Ashish Swargee from Kolkata says, “I run a flower and gift delivery store in the city and have been using Uber Connect to fulfil orders within almost 2 hours. The service is very convenient, reliable and allows me to run my business more efficiently.” Another frequent user, Sudeshna Sil a baker from Hyderabad says: “I use Uber Connect frequently to deliver baked goods and cakes directly to a client’s location, whether it's a hotel or a home. Uber Connect is very convenient compared to other available services.”
Tarun Gupta, Head of Strategic Initiatives, Uber India and South Asia, said, “Uber Connect is a prime example of how we are adapting our platform to serve the evolving needs of our communities and are thrilled to see small and medium enterprises using the service to meet their business objectives and keep supply chains running. When we first launched our package delivery service we wanted to help citizens stay connected to their loved ones or order essential items from shops, without having to step out of the safety of their homes. As the country opens up, we’re confident that Uber Connect can facilitate the economic revival of local businesses, along with creating new earning opportunities for drivers.”
Similar to Uber’s on-demand trips, users can continue to monitor the trip’s progress prior to pickup, en route, and at the dropoff, and can also share the delivery status with the recipient of the package. Uber Connect is available in 25 Indian cities including Kolkata, Hyderabad, Delhi, Jaipur and Chennai, among others. For more details on the service, you can visit our Newsroom Post.
